Mayor John Buckley announced the city has secured critical bipartisan federal support to fully fund a new fire pumper truck. The funding comes as the Hornell Fire Department serves as the only full-time station in the immediate region, frequently covering neighboring towns.In politics, New York gubernatorial candidate Bruce Blakeman brought his campaign to Olean, vowing to cut state utility costs by fifty percent. Blakeman is targeting the state’s current fracking ban, arguing that unlocking the Southern Tier’s natural gas reserves is the key to creating jobs and cheap energy.And Oak Hill Park was taken over by gravity recently for the annual Olean Area Soap Box Derby. Despite a dramatic pre-race crash that stripped the brake pads off two master-class cars, no drivers were injured.
